Earlier this year, Little Miracles, a UK charity supporting families with children who have additional needs, disabilities, and life-limiting conditions, reached out to solar installation company NGRE for help.
The charity’s Peterborough headquarters was struggling with escalating energy costs, with average monthly electricity expenses surpassing £250.
However, thanks to NGRE and Segen, the charity has now halved its electricity costs, allowing more funds to directly benefit the children and their families.
Electricity Bill Reduced By Almost 75%
The system would normally have cost the charity over £15k. Instead, it was donated by Segen and the install being completed free of charge by NGRE.
Michelle King is the CEO of Little Miracles. She said: “We’d been thinking of investing in solar panels for a while, but it’s been financially out of reach.
“But our energy bills have been getting higher and higher and quite frankly getting a bit too much. To be honest, it did keep me awake at night.
“A lot of our funding comes from restricted donations. The money must be spent in specific ways such as on care equipment, not on gas and electricity.
“And you want your donations to be spent directly on the children, but we couldn’t obviously run without gas and electricity.”
Greg Bishop is the Managing Director of NGRE and one of Segen’s valued customers. He added “We anticipate that this system will reduce their electricity bill by around 65%. That money is now spent providing better services for the children.”
The System Itself
The 32x JA Solar 435W bifacial traceable panels should generate 10,740kWh of electricity annually. The modules are are connected to a 10kW SolarEdge inverter. This enables Michelle and her staff to monitor their energy usage, track generation, and calculate savings.
Michelle said: “I must admit it’s become a bit of an obsession looking at the app. It’s great to see what the panels are generating and what we are saving. And we’re also thrilled that it has helped us reduce our carbon footprint.”
Segen Are Thrilled To Have Been Involved
“I was contacted by Greg from NGRE who shared Michelle’s incredible story and the fantastic work Little Miracles do, and asked if we could help – it was a no brainer.”
Rowan Ford
Executive Sales Manager, Segen
Greg added “I immediately contacted our supplier, Segen, who offered all the equipment for free. We sent a team over to Peterborough and undertook the install.
“Eyre & Elliston supplied the electrical components FOC and D and A scaffolding supplied the scaffold for free. And a big shout out to Emerson Patton for keeping us in tea and bacon rolls!
“The charity will save money on bills now and for years to come. They’ll also have some insulation from the unpredictable future energy price increases.”
