JA SOLAR Launches Low Carbon Modules

JA Solar pushes the solar module manufacturing industry forward.

Following the success of JA SOLAR’s modules with an Integrated Traceable System (ITS) launched in 2023, the company is now advancing its sustainability efforts with the introduction of ITS Low Carbon modules designed to improve sustainability scores and Scope 3 emissions.

JA SOLAR has implemented rigorous supply chain management through its ITS modules and continues to innovate with advanced low carbon solutions and recycling – so how has it achieved this?

Features:
• 50% FBR Polysilicon – see below
• 50% Recycled ingots
• Full life cycle analysis conducted across each stage of the supply chain including module, cell, and ingot production – Tracked and documented with a third-party verified report

FBR Polysilicon
The production of polysilicon is by far the most energy-intensive stage in module manufacture. By using fluidised bed reactor (FBR) technology rather than the traditional Siemens method, JA SOLAR uses up to 50% less energy through lower temperatures and continuous production.

As a result, the amount of embedded carbon in the final module is reduced by over a third. Additionally, by incorporating recycled ingots, JA SOLAR lowers the overall cradle-to-gate carbon footprint of each module by up to 40% less.

For example:
• Standard module = 630.97 kg CO2eq/kWp
• JA SOLAR ITS module = 463.25 kg CO2eq/kWp
• JA SOLAR ITS Low Carbon module = 392.12 CO2eq/kWp

JA SOLAR Low Carbon ITS modules have 40% less embedded carbon compared to standard modules with third party verification in accordance with ISO 14067.
